In the first phase, the application was to focus on the reporting needs of controlling to deliver the information gaps concerning actual and plan reporting of those local entities where a direct SAP based connection cannot be established to the central Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW). Additionally, forecasting and inter-company validations for all entities was in the scope of the project.

Generally, the data collection system was introduced to:

• Replace any existing communication channel (fax, e-mail, xls sheets etc.).

• Unify the information structure to build a basis for consolidation, storage, analysis and reporting.

• Enforce centrally integrated master data such as the unified chart of accounts or the global product definition.

• Validate the content of the submission prior to communication to corporate.

• Move the responsibility for the quality and content of the submission to the source, i.e. the local entity and it’s CFO.

• Reduce central and local workload in the process.

• Easily monitor the progress of the submission.

The data collection was developed with arcplan software. It enables the worldwide collection and validation of data via Intranet. Subsequently, the information is uploaded to the central SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) for corporate reporting.

This process replaces the previously implemented solution (sending excel-files to the central controlling department). The main process is accelerated and data quality was increased immensely.
