Based on higher expectations to a Management Information System, GIS implemented the productive application “Sales Reporting” for an international pharmaceutical organization at the beginning of the year 2001. This frontend application provides rich visualization and analysis of the company’s sales figures relating to products and markets originating from various source systems and structures.

The aim of the project was to implement a consistent communication of consolidated management information till the top management of all business areas throughout the worldwide organization and to supply this information in an integrated, data warehouse-based architecture. The main target of the application is to provide consolidated sales information that is tailored to the various user needs at any time within an easy-to-use intranet information portal.

The main features of the "Sales Reporting":

• Individual configuration of the application and of specific functionalities (e.g. alert function)

• Integration of different management information systems within one main interface providing navigation possibilities across functions and applications with only one single user identification

• Utilisation of various technologies and platforms

• Hierarchy structures that are easy to maintain

• Integration of qualitative information

• Reporting requirements of different user groups

• User-dependent availability of confidential information

• User-dependent authorization control on navigation and dimensions

• Actual, plan and prior year from various source systems

• Convenient administration and release processes

The underlying architecture consists of a SAP BW as the central, corporation-wide Data Warehouse, an application-oriented Data Mart conception in the SAP BW and a Microsoft SQL Server. The data model comprises five dimensions with multiple hierarchies - for example the product hierarchy which is based on more than 130.000 product codes.
